Saltwater Church members and friends are major supporters of two programs in South King County who assist the homeless in the area. Hospitality House is a shelter in Burien for single women. They provide a 90-day program which includes a safe living environment, meals, and case management. The Federal Way Day Center provides a place where the homeless can go Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and have showers, do laundry, cook food, have a safe place off the streets and receive case management services.
One of the ways that our church supports these programs is through donations brought to church services that are needed by the facilities. Hospitality House needs household items (paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies) and gift cards for Starbucks or movie theaters that the women can use in inclement weather on weekend days when the shelter isn’t open. Federal Way Day Center needs bath towels, shelf stable food that can be prepared quickly, laundry soap, underwear, socks, and personal hygiene items. For specific needs for both programs sent to us on a monthly basis, check the social justice bulletin board in the welcoming room.
So the next time you are shopping for your family, try to pick up a few extras for these two wonderful programs and bring to church with you. Donations will be delivered by church members. Carol Sandoval
