Can you imagine a world without punishment? Most of us have learned from an early age that punishment is essential, in parenting, in prisons, in geopolitics. Today, Rev. Alison will ask us to consider the possibility that we could build a healthy society that cared more about harm reduction than about punishment.

Led by the Church of the Larger Fellowship, whose membership includes many incarcerated UUs, Unitarian Universalism is engaging in a multi-year process of learning about the movement to abolish the last legal vestiges of slavery: the prison industrial complex. Contemporary abolitionists seek to transform how we address harm in ways that allow for positive change, both for the people harmed, and for the ones who perpetrate harm.
