What would it be like if our UU worship service centered entirely around the voices and the experiences of Black Unitarian Universalists? What truths might we hear, however difficult? What might we learn? How might these Black UU leaders teach us to be better allies, better siblings in faith, and even better citizens in our community?
In 2017, Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism created The Promise & The Practice worship answer these questions, and not quite a decade later, the wisdom shared in this service is still relevant if we want to create multicultural beloved community that truly welcomes different languages, cultures, and skin tones at Saltwater Church, as we say we do each week in our welcoming affirmation.
Following the service, Rev. Alison & lay leaders are offering a short training on avoiding microaggressions to help us learn to live our welcome more fully at church and in the wider world.
