Worship

Theme for April: Resistance

Throughout the month of April we are exploring the theme of resistance. According to the oxford languages dictionary, resistance is “the refusal to accept or comply; the attempt to prevent something by action.” As Unitarian Universalists, what are we called to resist? What is the relationship between spirituality and resistance? Can resistance be joyful? Join us as we explore new possible directions and learn together!

Rise & Thrive!

Pledge Drive News

Each spring, as members and friends of Saltwater Church, we make a promise of financial support (a pledge) for the coming fiscal year, which begins on July 1, 2023. Our pledges provide the funds that make the life of our church possible and for us to collectively fulfill our mission.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT EVEN MORE!

We all are experiencing inflation and a higher cost of living. Saltwater UU is faced with those same challenges. To keep up and honor our commitment to our minister, support staff, and spiritual home we will need to raise more funds this coming year.  If you would like to find out more about the finances at Saltwater UU please join Rev. Kristen and Gaye Greeves our Treasurer on Saturday April 8 10-11 in the church zoom room.

Thank you for those who have already returned your pledge cards. There are many ways you can turn in your pledge; leave it in the basket during service, drop it in the treasure chest after service, use our online form here, or mail the self addressed envelope that is in your pledge packet. If you need a copy of our pledge packet, click here to see our online documentation.

Ways to Volunteer

Growing Sunday Morning Worship

On Sundays, we continue to grow our multi-platform service skills. We’ve had (40-60) people, average, in the sanctuary, and another (20-30) on Zoom. We’re preparing to hire a second part-time AV person so we have the resources and skills to support our services. We hope this will also free up volunteers to help in other essential areas, including welcoming visitors.

We invite you to take part in creating the kind of community that you want to be part of! Consider this list of roles, and please get in touch with Leanne LaFramboise, our volunteer coordinator, at anna57.5@gmail.com if one of these roles calls to you.

If you’re interested in helping on a Sunday morning (Greeter, Welcome Desk, Usher, Worship Assistant, AV Desk, Multigenerational Activities).

  • For job details click here.
  • Contact Leanne (anna57.5@gmail.com) if you’re interested & need to get training/ orientation.

If you’re interested in helping with these teams (or want to learn more about them):

For the Sabbatical Team, Healthy Congregations Team, and Worship Team

  • If you decide you are interested, email Diane Schairer (juvinall3@aol.com)
  • We’ll follow up with those who contact us about next steps for forming the Worship Team (in conjunction with Kristen); or for selecting another member for the Healthy Congregations Team or the Sabbatical Team.

Climate Message of the Week

According to Yale Climate Opinion Maps (2021): 72% of Americans think global warming is happening.

Of those, only 35% discuss global warming at least occasionally and only 33% hear about global warming in the media at least once a week. The Climate Action Handbook says that just 10% of us call our representatives about climate change. Working for a just, sustainable climate can be as simple as staying current about climate news, talking to others about climate change, and contacting your representatives to let them know that climate is your top priority.

Are there topics or questions you’d like to see covered in future Climate Messages? Email suggestions to Sheri Jacobson at sheridjacobson@yahoo.com.
