Worship
Live multi-platform worship in the sanctuary and online through Zoom!
Theme for January: Liberating Love
Liberating love is our heritage as Unitarian Universalists, and practicing that love is part of our mission at Saltwater Church. Our Universalist ancestors believed that God was too loving to condemn anyone to hell, and today the social justice arm of the Unitarian Universalist Association is called “Side with Love” because we understand our social justice advocacy work as bringing liberating love into being in the world. Join us in January to explore the gift of liberating love in our past, present and future.
Worship In January at Saltwater Church
January 14 Finding Liberating Love in Christianity – Rev. Alison Duren-Sutherland (in-person)
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, like Black American Christians before and after him, found in the Bible the seeds of their liberation from oppression. Rev. Alison will help us look beyond the ways Christianity has been used to oppress and find the message of liberating love that inspired Dr. King, Harriet Tubman, and countless other Black American liberators.
January 21 Called by Love in the Clinic Counseling Office – Rev. Alison Duren-Sutherland (in-person)
Today, when we ought to be celebrating the 51st anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision, Rev. Alison will share the ways that her work in reproductive healthcare made her a Universalist and informed her life and her ministry.
January 28 Love – Janeane Weprin, Saltwater Church Member
Love is at the Center, here at Saltwater, and love is at my center. Love is my spiritual truth. It is everywhere, in everything, and in everyone. We are all connected in, and by, love. And we practice love at Saltwater. Our intention is to manifest love in everything we do. Come, let us celebrate love together.

This is a presentation from the UUA Neurodivergence Skill Up series. Dr. Ramon Selove has useful insights on neurodivergent life in our UU faith family. On January 21st, during our extended Faith Formation Sunday, we will be exploring this topic with our own panel of neurodivergent members and friends. As we learn from each other through a practice of listening and thoughtful questions, we will find ways to co-create a space of belonging for all neuropathways.

From Our Leadership
From The Board of Directors
Thanks to all who participated in our December Congregational Meeting on December 31st. At that meeting, we talked about all the amazing things that have been happening, over the past half-year, and plans for the next half-year.
- Please click here to see the slides that we shared, and
- for more information, click here for a detailed report — which includes who to contact to get involved.
Our meeting highlighted the inspirational power of being part of something larger than ourselves. Being involved is not just about “getting things done.” It’s a way to practice your values while creating a community guided by our shared mission. In the end of the meeting, people shared their intentions; what they aspire to do, or with what spirit; how they will help build this community.
As you see all that has been done and what’s to come, we invite you to imagine yourself bringing your gifts and presence to continue strengthening our community. With that in mind,
- please click here to provide some information about yourself and your interests. This will help us get better at connecting with each other, and matching interests and activities.
Together, we can care for each other, make the world a better place, and have fun!
Minister’s Messages
Are you wondering What’s next? after our recent Adult Faith Formation sessions on Article II of the UUA Bylaws? Rev. Alison answers that question in this week’s Minister’s Message, as well as celebrating our engagement in the process of trying to answer the question What does it mean to be a Unitarian Universalist? The word cloud above represents some of our answers to this question here at Saltwater Church. You can find Rev. Alison’s message via the home page of the church website or here: Minister’s Messages.
Rev. Alison’s next in-person visit to Saltwater will be this Sunday, January 14-21.

Climate Message of the Week
Recycling can be so confusing. What do the “chasing arrows” mean? Can you recycle shredded paper? According to a recent Seattle Times article, people throw everything from toasters to garden hoses in their recycle bins. (Read the complete article, Recycling 101, at http://tinyurl.com/yuahpyxj.) Tossing the wrong items in the recycle bins can contaminate whole loads, damage recycling equipment, or even pose a danger to solid waste employees.
King County has some tips to help you. Focus on what should always be recycled: paper like newspapers, magazines, and office paper; cardboard; plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs; glass bottles and jars; cans made from aluminum, tin, and steel. Be sure that your recyclables are empty, clean, and dry. Call your waste management service if you’re not sure about whether something is recyclable — items vary from city to city. And when in doubt, throw it out. That may seem wrong but doing so may avoid contaminating a whole load of material. Finally, make recycling more effective by letting your legislators know that you support the Re-WRAP Act (HB2049/SB 6005) which will make it easier to recycle, increase recycling rates, and even create jobs. To learn more, see the Re-WRAP Act factsheet at http://tinyurl.com/sfseaeuk. ****image credit: Ekaterina Bolovtsova
