Who misses the sun?
Sunday March 13 at 2am Daylight Savings Time begins!!!
FUN DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME FACT:
The first serious case for Daylight Savings Time came from a peculiar place. While working at a post office by day, an entomologist who did most of his bug hunting at night soon became frustrated by how early the sun set during the summer months. He reasoned springing the clocks forward would allow more daylight for bug collecting—along with other evening activities. The clocks could be switched back in the winter when people (and bugs) were less likely to be found outdoors. Initially, their idea was rejected but it was only a matter of time …

Theme for March & April: “Journey”
In the months of March and April we will be exploring the theme of journey. Our individual journeys overlap with the journeys of other travelers, and those overlaps help us grow, learn and transform. Together we will explore the calling to search, wander, and experience. We will share our stories of transformation with one another. Where in your life is a journey unfolding? Let us explore together!

Article II Study Commission Individual Survey – UUA
The Board wants the congregation to know about an important opportunity to contribute to the future of the wider UU faith. The UUA’s Article II Commission is seeking input from individual Unitarian Universalists on Shared Values, Inspirations, Purpose, and Covenant through a survey that closes on March 31st. You can take as little or as much time as you wish to reflect on what UU principles, purposes and sources are important to your faith.
Every 15 years there is a study by the Article II Commission, to see how to keep our faith and focus relevant and adapt to a changing world. The survey is one way the Article II Commission is gathering information to guide the updating of the Bylaws, including the 7 Principles. Any recommended changes will be put to a vote at the 2023 GA.
Here is the link to the survey. https://bit.ly/3q4IhJM
Below is a link to a statement by the Article II Study Commission from 2020 about work done so far. The deadline was extended to 2023 due to COVID.

Reopening Update
On Wednesday, February 23, the Saltwater Church Board met and reviewed the covid transmission rates in our community. With the significant decrease in cases, the Board has approved reopening the church campus for outdoor in-person events and small group indoor events. The Reopening Team is also hard at work on a plan for launching an in-person watch party model of worship in April. Please read our Ways to Volunteer section to see how you can assist with our watch parties. Stay tuned for more details!
For all in-person events, we will continue to mask and practice social distancing in order to decrease the risk of transmission and care for the most vulnerable members of our community. To read the full guidelines for small group meetings indoors, please follow this link: https://saltwaterchurch.org/calendar/covid19-info/. If you would like to schedule an event, please use our online request form available at https://saltwaterchurch.org/calendar/calendar-request/.
Ways to Volunteer
Sunday Worship Watch Partis are coming soon!
We’re looking forward to getting together again! Our first step in resuming in-person worship is with “watch parties”. The service will continue to be available to you at home on your computer, and will also be on the “big screen” in the sanctuary. To reduce the risk of illness as we emerge from this pandemic we are:
- Open to a maximum of 25 people in the sanctuary. Due to limited seating, we’ll have a reservation system. More information about making your reservation will be available in the upcoming weeks.
- Those attending will be required to wear masks. Family groups can sit together and will be asked to distance from others.
- There will not be an in-person “coffee hour” after the service. However, you can socialize outside (maintaing a safe distance).
Please help us turn this idea into a reality! Volunteer as a Greeter, Usher, or to help run the AV equipment. These volunteer positions will take only a couple hours of your time per month, and will ensure you a seat in the sanctuary on the day you work.
Job descriptions can be found by clicking the title of the role tha interests you. You can sign up for these positions online at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4CA5AD23A2FCC70-worship We’ll have a walk-through/ training session (date to be announced). If you have any questions, contact our office administrator at administrator@saltwaterchurch.org and they will connect you with the Team Lead for your area of interest. Hope to see you there!

Climate Message of the Week
The images coming out of Ukraine are heartbreaking. Svitlana Krakovska of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute says that “Human-induced climate change and the war on Ukraine have the same roots, fossil fuels, and our dependence on them.” Petro-states like Russia are 50 percent more conflict-prone than other countries and their militaries are funded with their oil money. Unfortunately, some fossil fuel companies and politicians are calling for a return of “drill, baby, drill” to ramp up our oil and gas production in response to the war in Ukraine.
Climate activist Bill McKibben is calling for us to push for renewable energy as security and defense investments as an alternative to the “drill, baby, drill” response. “Think of all the other autocrats that depend on oil and gas revenues to do what they do. . . .If we get off this stuff, the possibilities for the world are truly remarkable,” he says. Contact your representatives to tell them you support renewable energy sources over increased drilling. Continue to find ways to cut your own fossil fuel use.
Are there topics or questions you’d like to see covered in future Climate Messages? Email suggestions to Sheri Jacobson at sheridjacobson@yahoo.com. *** image credit: Bubba
